Holistic agriculture that is in harmony
with nature and humans

The use of pasture was the basis. What could be more ecological than having the animals harvest their own food! I wanted to be able to capture and preserve as much of the fertilizer produced by animals as possible. Forage plants of several species were planted to maximize the effects of the roots on soil health. Healthy soil then brings insects and microbial life which is capable of degrading bison droppings and nourishing plants. The hairs during moulting are collected by the birds for the nests and they feed the young with flies whose larvae have decomposed the droppings, ridding the animals of unwelcome animals. Everything is a cycle, everyone helps each other!

In addition, grasses have a great capacity to capture atmospheric carbon to sequester it in the soil and this is our small part of the way to fight against climate change. A majority of land in Quebec is not cultivable for large crops or market gardening.

The production of fodder which is not consumable by humans, but which is for animals which we can subsequently feed ourselves, is for me a logical continuation in reasoned agriculture, sustainable over time and balanced with the environment.
